Being a people person is a wonderful quality. It can make you very empathetic, friendly, sociable, and means being with people can bring a lot of joy to your life, and the lives of others.

So many people end up in careers that they simply don’t enjoy, but if you’re a people person, there are a lot of amazing careers worth exploring that will play to this special strength.

If you’re a people person, consider the following careers and try your hand at something you really love.

Counseling

Counselors have a special place in making people feel better. Everyone has struggles in their life at some stage, but counselors can be there to help people work through their issues. To become a counselor, there is some training you will need to undertake, and you might want to think about looking into the study of people (anthropology) too. Anthropology can be a useful degree to pursue if you want to be a counselor, with some great figures like Jay Levi providing you with a lot of inspiration. Counseling can take you down different avenues as you work to help people overcome struggles in their lives.

Journalism

If you love people, why not share their stories? Journalism is a fantastic career if you love working with people, and even better if you love writing too. Making writing your career can be an enjoyable way of earning a living, taking you to different places, and helping you meet all sorts of people. Most journalists undertake some form of training, but if you’re determined and can prove your worth, you could find other ways to make journalism your career.

Teaching

Teaching is another amazing profession if you’re a people person. Teaching doesn’t have to just mean educating children, it can involve teaching adults either at college, in the workplace, or in other types of learning environments. Teaching can be very rewarding, and watching people succeed can make you extremely proud of what you do.

Care

Jobs in care-related industries are important to our society. The recent pandemic has put even greater emphasis on the need for skilled carers. Caring is a tough job at times, and you need to have that passion for people to see you through. While it can be tough, it’s also very rewarding, and it makes a huge difference to people’s lives when someone who really cares is helping them. If you want to explore careers in caring, you could consider volunteering first to see if it’s something you could pursue full-time.

Being a people person can open up a lot of incredible career options. From careers that make a difference, to those that keep you busy, finding a career that plays to your strengths and interests can help you have a long and happy working life. Where will your love of people take you?

Resume Enhancement

A well-crafted resume should showcase your passion for people when applying for journalism, teaching or care careers. Include experiences that demonstrate interpersonal skills such as empathy and compassion as well as volunteering experiences that demonstrate these attributes (such as community center volunteering or public speaking engagements). Also, note any training or education specific to your chosen field - using Microsoft Word resume templates will make getting started much simpler!
