Can an Introvert Run a Successful Blog?

Guest post by Michael Deane

A lot of people have misconceptions about introverts. They see them as individuals who are quiet, shy, and who are only looking for ways to stay out of the limelight.

The truth is a bit different - social interactions make introverts feel tired and drained. When they’re alone, however, introverts typically feel refreshed and energized.

This is precisely why blogging is the ideal job for introverts. It’s something that requires only minimal interaction, but at the same time allows you to spend a lot of time crafting content for your blog.

Yes, you’ll probably have to reply to a couple of emails and answer one or two phone calls during the week. However, you’ll be free to be alone and write for the rest of the time.

A lot of well-known bloggers are actually staunch introverts - one doesn’t need a life of partying to be successful. In this article, we’ll be taking a closer look at the matter and provide some useful actionable tips to help you start a prosperous blogging career as an introvert.

Why is Blogging Great for Introverts

To become a successful introvert blogger, you will have to be able to market yourself and communicate well to get work.

However, keep in mind that in blogging, everything is done online and from the comfort of your home-based workplace. One of the advantages of this occupation is that you never have to meet your employer. Writing a good cover letter is certainly easier than having face-to-face interviews!

Despite their unwillingness to be at the center of attention, introverts can benefit from blogging - it helps them appear credible and confident. Unlike speaking in person, which can be intimidating, writing lets you perfect your words before letting the world see them.

Introverts love being alone and spending time writing blog content provides just that. It’s the ideal kind of situation - you’re earning money while enjoying the peace and quiet of your safe space.

Tips to Get You Started

To become a successful blogger, whether you’re an introvert or not, you have to keep your audience interested. The following tips should help you get off to a good start:

Grab Your Audience With a Strong Introduction

Nowadays, many people are living fast lives and they don’t have time for reading long stories.

Instead, most of them just skim through articles and stop to read only those paragraphs that catch their attention. For that matter, it’s crucial to create a hook in your introduction - one that will grab people and make them read the whole thing.

A great way to do this is to ask a question right at the beginning and provide an answer later in the article. Another method would be to hook the audience by quoting a statistic or a fact. You can then back it up throughout the piece. Telling an anecdote or a cute story is also a good idea.

Sometimes, an oddly written first sentence can grab people’s attention. You can also quote a success story to pique the interest of readers. Summarizing upfront what the story is about and then providing the details later is yet another method.

Make Your Content Great

Blogging isn’t just writing and posting articles online. In essence, it’s a relationship between you and your audience. To many, it looks like a one-sided conversation, but it actually isn’t.

A lot of blogs allow readers to comment, permitting them to express their opinions or disagreements. A comment system gives the readers an important role and keeps the conversation going. Many successful bloggers enjoy this kind of relationship with readers and encourage them to participate.

To get their audience to respond, they use questions in their articles. A lot of times, bloggers will also use strong, or even shocking opinions, to trigger a reaction. Other times, they will offer solutions to various issues.

No matter the technique you decide to go with, aim to establish a connection with the readers and keep it going.

Get More Attention

One of the most efficient ways to promote a blog is by using social media. Tens of millions of businesses use social media to promote their online presence. Among these, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are the most popular choices.

Optimizing your blog, so that the readers can find your content via search, is just as important. Moreover, keep in mind that more and more people use smartphones and tablets to browse the Internet - it’s vital for your blog to be mobile-friendly.

Many introverts have a lot to say but are afraid to do so. Fortunately, those who aren’t comfortable expressing their ideas, feelings, and thoughts in person can do so online.

So, can an introvert run a successful blog? Absolutely. Being an introvert can cause a lot of different issues in real life, but none of that really matters online. Blogging won’t only let you speak your mind freely - it will also build your confidence.
